The Casebook records what regulators and regulated entities have published about the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the DPDP Rules, 2025. It is a record, not an assessment. Each entry is dated, cites every document it relies on, and distinguishes the Act from the Rules.
Sources
- A statement about a named organisation rests on that organisation’s own publication: an annual report, a Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report, a stock exchange filing, or a notice or advertisement it has published.
- A statement about the law rests on the Gazette of India, or on a document issued by the ministry or regulator concerned.
- A news report may be used for context, and is labelled when it is. A news report alone is never the basis of a statement about a named organisation.
- The Forum keeps a copy of every document an entry cites, as it stood on the day the entry was compiled.
What the Casebook does not do
- It does not rate, rank, score or compare organisations, or say whether an arrangement it describes is adequate.
- It does not say or suggest that any organisation is in breach of a provision that is not yet in force.
- It does not name, recommend or describe any vendor, product or service an organisation may use.
- It does not reproduce the logos or marks of the organisations it names.
- An organisation’s absence from the Casebook says nothing about it. Entries are added as documents are read.
Interpretation
Where an entry says what a document means, that passage is headed as the Forum’s reading. The reading is the Forum’s own, has no legal force, and is published so that it can be examined and contested.
Corrections and replies
An organisation named in the Casebook, or any reader who finds an error, can write to the Forum at contact@dpdpaforum.org. A correction is made on the entry itself, with the date and a note of what changed. A named organisation that asks for its response to be recorded will have it summarised on the entry, with its date.
